Formerly a farming community, this neighborhood slowly, quietly changed into a low key suburbia. Originally known as St. John, in 1889 the area was renamed to Barberton after Milo Barber, the first postmaster of Klickitat and Yakima Railway. Barberton is located in an unincorporated area north of Vancouver, about 20 minutes from Portland Airport. What you'll find here are large homes on acreage, single family homes on quarter acre lot, and new construction from 2010 onwards. This neighborhood is bordered by Salmon Creek and Curtain Creek and with many farm land still in the area, Barberton is the ideal place to look for homes that back up to a greenspace or a backyard with extra privacy.

Easier to find homes with larger floor plans on bigger lots for a reasonable price.
Easy access to I-205 and I-5. Closeby to Salmon Creek for easy access for restaurants and shops
Most neighborhoods have sidewalks, street lights, and the streets are wider (but the main roads do not).
Close to nature. You'll have easy access to trails at WSU, Salmon Creek trail, Curtin Creek Park, and more.

Honest Trade-offs

Heavily car dependent. You need a car to drive to most shops and restaurants
The neighborhood offers limited activities, entertainment, restaurants, and shopping
The area is still in development. The farm next door could turn into a 200 home subdivision next year.
Not very bike friendly. While most neighborhoods have are pedestrian and bike friendly, the main roads do not have sidewalks or dedicated bike lanes.
