Battle Ground

North Clark County, WA

Tucked away up north on the edge of rural-ness, Battle Ground was named for a battle that never happened between the settlers and the Klickitat Native American tribe members. Battle Ground is located far north of Vancouver, about 30 minutes from Portland Airport and it gives a small town feel with easy access to a lot of great outdoor spaces.
Battle Ground is one of the more affordable places in Clark County and one of the areas rapidly expanding. You'll find a lot of new construction homes here but you'll also find every types of homes from small farm cottage to large estate on acreage.

Living Here: Pros & Cons

What's Great

  • More affordable than Camas or Ridgefield for comparable space
  • Exceptional outdoor recreation — state park, regional river park, and state forests minutes away
  • Family-oriented, small-town community feel
  • Served by a large, established school district
  • Old Town downtown with local shops and events

Honest Trade-offs

  • No direct freeway access — commutes rely on the State Route 503 corridor, which congests at peak times
  • Longer drive to Portland than south-county communities
  • Fewer urban dining and shopping options than Vancouver
  • Growth has brought more traffic to the main corridors
