Fruit Valley is one of the oldest neighborhood in Vancouver and is a neighborhood that feels disconnected from the rest of the city. Separated by the railroad track, Fruit Valley has the largest landmass in Vancouver and they share the space with Vancouver Lake, Shillpoo Natural Area, Ridgefield Wildlife Sancturary, Port of Vancouver, and a few industrial neighbors such as Frito-Lays. Historically, this area had the richest soil and was abundant with farms and orchards. During World War 2, the area experienced a huge influx of workers who came to work for the Kaiser’s Vancouver Shipyard and hundreds of homes were built to accomodate the workers.
The area is home to about 1,000 households and about 50% are single family homes cottage styles on small lots.
