La Center

North Clark County, WA

La Center is Clark County’s smallest incorporated city, tucked along the East Fork Lewis River about 16 miles north of Vancouver. Forests and farmland wrap around it on every side, and it holds onto a genuinely rural, small-town feel that’s getting harder to find in this part of the county.

It’s quiet by design. The river runs right along the south edge of town, so kayaking, fishing, and riverside walks are part of daily life, and the schools are small and tight-knit. The community is growing — it’s added a lot of residents since 2020 — but it’s still a place where you know your neighbors.

The honest trade-off is that small means small: you’ll drive to Battle Ground, Woodland, or Vancouver for most shopping, dining, and services. La Center also has a long history as a card-room town, and the nearby ilani casino off I-5 is a major regional draw. If you want the most rural, low-key footprint in the county and don’t mind a drive for errands, La Center delivers.
